Spelling Bee Competition: Jakande’s Educational Program Crowns Spelling Champions in Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye

The air in the Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA council hall was thick with anticipation on Friday, Oct 31, as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Seyi Jakande, transformed the seat of local governance into an arena of academic excellence with his hosting of a spectacular Spelling Bee competition for primary and secondary school students in the LCDA.

The event, which points to a vibrant pillar of the chairman's campaign promise to revitalize education in the community, drew a diverse crowd of sharp-eyed students, proud teachers, and beaming parents, all united in celebrating intellectual achievement.

In his address, Chairman Jakande expressed his profound gratitude to the teachers, parents, and guardians who serve as the bedrock of the students' success. He reframed the purpose of the competition, elevating it beyond a simple contest.

“Today is not just about who can spell the most challenging words,” Hon. Jakande stated, his voice echoing with conviction. “This event is a celebration of potential. It is about fostering a deep-seated love for learning, encouraging healthy competition, and, most importantly, recognizing the incredible diligence these young minds pour into their education.”

Earlier in her welcome address, wife of the chairman, Mrs Adebimpe Jakande charged the students to focus on their education saying, “Education is the non-negotiable cornerstone of our community's future. Events like this emphasize its paramount importance. I encourage every student here to continue embracing knowledge, not just in spelling, but in all aspects of life. Always strive to learn, grow, and challenge yourselves. Your journey is just beginning.”

At the end of the competiton, Adetolani Adegboye of Local Government Nursery & Primary School, Idi-Oro won the first position, while second place was taken by Taiwo Mudashiru from Majolate Nursery Primary School. Victory Stephen from St. Paul African Church Primary School, Ilupeju came third.

For the secondary school category, Aina Heritage of Ransom Kuti Memorial Senior Grammar School emerged as the ultimate wordsmith, claiming the coveted top spot. Chilneke Miracle of Ransom Kuti Memorial Junior Grammar School proved that age is no barrier to excellence with a stellar second-place finish. Adeosun Fimidaraoluwa from Estate Senior Grammar School secured a well-deserved position on the winners' podium.

The event was graced by a host of dignitaries including Wife of the Vice Chairman, Hon (Mrs.) Dayo Awodogan as well as wives of all the LCDA's councillors, among others. Their attendance sent a powerful, unified message that the future of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye is brightest when invested in the minds of its youth.
